Deep Sea Tailings Placement: How, Why, When and Where
The Singapore mining club is pleased to invite you to our next free-to-attend educational event in partnership with Greencorp.
Greencorp is an environmental boutique consultancy providing high-level consulting services, predominantly to the mining industry in South East Asia. Greencorp provides practical approaches to manage issues ranging from environmental and social impact assessment and technical aspects of acid rock drainage and mine closure, through land acquisition and resettlement or Indigenous Peoples issues, to a thorough analysis of ways and means of sharing project benefits with host communities so that these benefits are not transitory.
Mining operations produce a wide range of waste streams, dominated in quantity and importance by waste rock and tailings. Disposal of such large quantities of mine wastes poses enormous challenges for the mining industry, with significant environmental impacts that are difficult if not impossible to avoid.
This seminar is to elaborate on accepted Deep Sea Tailings Placement (DSTP) practices, emerging regulatory guidance, and on common misperceptions. The seminar provides essential knowledge to and is intended to benefit miners and investors seeking to develop or acquire a mining operation in a tropical setting; and financiers who need to assess the technical and regulatory risks of mining operations contemplating DSTP.
Join us on November 12, 2019 in Singapore as we discuss issues related to DSTP and share our insights on how to manage and mitigate associated environmental and social risks, both real and perceived risks.
Working on DSTP for over 20 years (and currently working on 3 proposed DSTP schemes in SE Asia), Greencorp possesses an in-depth understanding of on land and submarine tailings management.
| Agenda Highlights:
Key Risks and Misperceptions associated with DSTP including · Emerging regulatory guidance · Environmental risks, real and perceived · Reputational risks · Pros and Cons · Supporting studies and long-term monitoring Speakers: · Dr Karlheinz Spitz (together with John Trudinger author of the text book ‘Mining and the Environment – From Ore to Metal’) · Dr Wisnu Susetyo · John Trudinger |
We look forward to seeing you.
